Frequently Asked Questions

First Fitting

At the first fitting we will discuss the fit of your dress and what needs to be altered and anything else that you would like to be added. You will try on your dress and I will pin it accordingly.

I do not charge for your first fitting. At the end of this appointment I will give you a price for the alterations based on our discussion. This will not change unless extras are added that were not included in your initial quote.

Please note if your dress has lace or beading that needs to be unpicked to alter your dress, these will not be sewn down at your next appointment until we are happy with the fit of your gown. Don’t worry, by the time you collect your gown, everything will be finished beautifully!

How many fittings are required?

Three fittings is normal, however, if the dress is particularly complex, or you are having lots of customisation work, you could require more. I do not charge for your first fitting or the first hour of every subsequent fitting, however, after the first hour, I charge £15 per half an hour.

How long is my appointment?

Fittings are an hour long, however, if you plan to add bespoke elements to the dress, such as sleeves or an illusion front/back you may require more time. If you let me know during our initial conversation I will book you in for a longer session. Please note, fittings over 1 hour (excluding your first fitting) are charged at £15 per extra half hour.

What should I bring with me to my appointment?

Please bring the underwear that you intend to wear on your wedding day, particularly the bra, as even the smallest difference in padding can affect the fit of the dress at your bust. Please also bring the shoes that you will wear on your wedding day as alterations to the hem cannot be done without them along with a hoop or petticoat if you are using one with your dress.

All of theses items will be needed at every fitting.

Should I bring anyone with me?

You may want to bring a trusted family member or friend if this will help you to feel more comfortable, however, it can be difficult to accommodate multiple people so I do suggest only bringing one extra person. Please do not bring young children to the fitting as it can be a distraction to the process and it is not entirely safe as there will be pins involved in the fitting.

How far in advance should I book my fitting?

It is advisable that you make your appointment as soon as possible as I only take on a limited number of fittings per month. However, 6-10 weeks before the wedding is the best time to begin fitting your gown, particularly if you have a complex dress with plenty of beading or if you want to make significant changes.

Steaming

The steaming of your dress is included in the total cost of your alterations, however, any additional items will be changed at £10 per item.

If you do not require any alterations but would just like to have your dress steamed the cost is £20 for your dress plus £10 per extra item.

How and when should I pay for my fittings?

Payment can be taken by card or a bank transfer.

If you wish to do a bank transfer, payment must be made and funds received prior to collection. Alternatively you can pay via card upon collection or at your last fitting.

I do not accept cash unless it is the exact amount, as I don’t carry any change.
